I was so happy when our little guy started Kindergarten this past August…freedom!!  I love him but it’s like mission impossible to focus on anything or to get things done when he’s around.  If you’re a mom (or dad) working from home, I’m sure you know the feeling (the struggle is real!).

But, everything in life has its pros and cons.  So, while it’s nice to have some peace and quiet to get some work done, let’s not forget that cold and flu season is upon us.  I really don’t look forward to him getting sick.  Let’s face it, schools are a perfect place to pick up those germs and the worst thing is seeing our little guys and girls suffering.  Wouldn’t you do anything for your kid to not get sick?  Yes, me too!  We do ensure he gets his flu shot every year but realistically, those are not 100% effective, I mean is anything really?  However, better be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to kids.

There are so many other options that we have/could use/to help support our kids’ immune systems during the school year.  I want to share with you what we’ve found to be effective.

  1. VITAMINS

Kids are usually picky eaters and sometimes it’s a real challenge to provide them with the proper nutrition for a healthy immune system.  When you choose your vitamins make sure you are getting a natural option with no or a very low amount of sugar.

  2. RAW MANUKA HONEY

This honey has amazing benefits for our health, and I love to use it to support our immune systems due to its antibacterial properties.  However, you need to make sure you buy certified raw manuka honey from New Zealand.  It is one of the most expensive honeys in the world but for me the investment is worth it.

Manuka honey is produced by bees which gather nectar from the Manuka bush growing in New Zealand.  There’s a lot of fake Manuka honey products sold on the market.  For that reason, the New Zealand Government created labeling requirements and guidelines.  To get the most health benefits from Manuka honey, you should look for a UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) of 15+ and MGO (Methylgloxal Content) of 500+.  The UMF signifies the antibacterial strength of Manuka honey.  I love this one from MANUKORA.

  3. IMMUNITY SUPPORT ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND

Essential oils are a great way to strengthen the immune system and to help your kids through the winter months and the school year.  I always use between 3-5 essential oils in a therapeutic blend.  This technique is what I learned while getting my aromatherapy certification and through experience I’ve found that 3-5 is the perfect number to achieve whatever your intended results are.  In this blend I used 5 essential oils that I chose due to their anti-viral, antibacterial, decongestant and immunostimulant properties, among others.

Personal experience has shown these oils to work well.  Last year, when our little guy was in pre-school he got sick only once and it lasted just a day.   The next day he was fine, like nothing happened!  The great part is that it’s not just for the kids, you can use it for yourself as well.
